Dr W Selvamurthy, Distinguished Scientist has been appointed as Chief Controller R&D for Life Sciences (LS) and International Cooperation (IC) wef 03 May 2011. He is post-graduate in Human Physiology from Christian Medical College, Vellore (1972) and Ph.D from University of Delhi (1982) and Doctorate of Science (D.Sc.) from Swami Vivekananda Yoga AnusandhanaSamsthana (Deemed University), Bangalore (2006). He has been awarded the Degree of Doctorate of Science (D.Sc.) (HonorisCausa) in recognition of his eminent attainment in the field of science and his distinctive place in the scientific world by Fakir Mohan University, Balasore (2008). Recently he has also been awarded Doctorate of Science (D.Sc.) (HonorisCausa) from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore (2009).

Dr W Selvamurthy joined DRDO in 1973 and during the 36 years of service in DRDO he has had a meritorious career and became Director of two DRDO institutes i.e. Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS) & Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR) in the year 1992 and held this position for 10 years. He has personally made significant research contributions for the benefit of the soldiers in the fields related to:

• Physiological acclimatisation at high altitude
• Application of yoga for the armed forces
• Discovered a drug to save war casualties subjected to severe hemorrhage
• Psychological stress and its management
• Life support systems for soldiers in extreme operational environments
