Prof. Lam Kong Peng

Prof. Kong-Peng Lam obtained his BA (summa cum laude) at the University of Minnesota and his M.A., M.Phil and PhD at Columbia University in the USA. Thereafter he joined the Institute for Genetics at the University of Cologne in Germany as a postdoctoral research scientist, where he was awarded both the EMBO and HFSP long-term fellowships to study B cell development using conditional gene knockout approaches. He returned to Singapore in 1998 and assumed the position of Principal Investigator at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB). In 2002-3, he attended the Sloan Fellow Program at Stanford University Graduate School of Business where he graduated with an MSc (Mgmt) degree.


He was seconded to A*STAR Biomedical Research Council where he served as Director (2003), Deputy Executive Director (2004) and Acting Executive Director (2005-2006) while concurrently heading a research laboratory at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM). He returned to full-time research in October 2006 and was the founding Executive Director of the Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN), a post he held from 2006 to 2008.


He joined the Bioprocessing Technology Institute (BTI) as Scientific Director in May 1 2008, and is currently its Executive Director. Kong-Peng also holds tenured Full Professorship at the National University of Singapore and Adjunct Full Professorship at the Nayang Technological University and sits on various BMRC and NMRC grant review committees. He was awarded the Arthur Kornberg Memorial Medal by the Asia-Pacific International Molecular Biology Organisation in November 2010.
